A woman boarded an IndyGo bus in Indianapolis, Indiana around 10:30 p.m. one night. Feeling safe on the public transportation, she fell asleep. However, she would soon wake to an unimaginable nightmare when a stranger decided to help the vulnerable woman.
A few minutes after the unnamed woman got on the bus, a man boarded as well. Little did she know, she would see more of him later — more than she ever wanted before the tragic night of March 17 came to an end. As she dozed off, she had no idea that a nightmare was about to begin, but it would be after she opened her eyes.
In her silent slumber, the woman didn’t realize the bus had ended its route, and she woke in a state of confusion, not knowing where she was. That’s when the man who had boarded the bus after her offered to give her a helping hand. Accepting his offer would turn out to be her worst mistake.
Offering to let her use a phone, the man lured his victim from the vehicle. Then, he raped her behind a dumpster at Bavarian Village apartments before taking her to an empty apartment. She woke the next morning and rushed to the apartment office where she called the police.
Unfortunately, the rape suspect remains on the lose. Even though some of the victim’s personal belongings were missing, including her debit card which was later used three times at a local Citgo gas station the following day, the suspect has eluded police, who are now turning to the public for help. They ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 (TIPS) or 800-222-8477 (TIPS). You can also submit a mobile tip through the P3tips app for Apple or Android phones or visit www.CrimeTips.org to submit a web tip.
In the age of social media, there’s no reason a scum like this can’t be quickly identified and caught. Helping capture criminals is as easy sharing an article and the image across your various profiles. You never know where this man could now be or who might recognize him, but one thing is for certain — he needs caught and everyone should do anything they can to help before he preys on another unsuspecting victim.
It’s a sad world we live in when we have to question the intentions of strangers and always be ever vigilant about our own safety. It’s a shame this woman wasn’t a concealed carry permit holder and armed for her own self-defense. Think of all that could have been saved with just one bullet. She wouldn’t be a victim and the police wouldn’t be looking for the perpetrator — they’d have him in custody with a few extra holes in him, and that’s exactly what a rapist deserves.
